I learned earlier this week that Pizza Maria announced on Facebook they’re shutting down. A fundraiser for their staff has been planned for this Saturday from 4-7 PM.
I’ve delivered many times for Pizza Maria. The manager, Anna Caporael, had a countenance that suggest something is bothering her every time I arrived for a pick-up. She must have been wrestling with the thoughts that her business wasn’t sustainable.
I think this rubbed off on the couriers who were dispatched to Pizza Maria. Some couriers have stated that Pizza Maria staff have been somewhat condescending to them. Maybe their financial struggles as a business had something to do with it.
To my knowledge, this is the first restaurant with a partnership with Caviar in Portland to shut down.
In the larger scheme of things, this is a loss for Portland foodies because Pizza Maria is one of the top pizzeria in town according to reviews.
