2007 Toyota Prius

Hello New Prius!

Hey guys. I just want to update you on the car wreck. Things got ugly where we last left off.

The other party accused me of racing through the intersection (in a Prius!). I didn’t even bother responding to that and left it to the insurance companies to decide who was at fault.

I’ve been driving a rental, the 2015 Subaru Legacy, for a few weeks now. It couldn’t compete with my 2006 Prius on MPG which is a bit sad. I only gets around 32 MPG with the Legacy. Innovate, Subaru! Innovate!

Anyways, my Prius was totaled. The cost of repair was $7,500 which is more than what I bought it for back in the fall.

Luckily, the other party’s insurance company agreed to pay 80% of the damage to my car because I had right of way. Also, my insurance rate didn’t increase. That’s all I cared about.

I had my insurance cover the collision since I didn’t want to pay the remaining 20% out of pocket. A third-party praised the Prius and said it was worth around $7,200. I paid the $500 deductible and my insurance wrote me a check for $6,700.

I recently found a 2007 Prius with 144,000 miles (about 34,000 miles less than the 2006 Prius). The price tag was $6,995, which is $7,178 once you include title fees and all the other fees. This is a great deal because I make almost a dollar for each mile that I drive as a courier and filling up a Prius cost $16-17 right now. In other words, I’m paying about $1,100 more for this Prius than the one before but it has over $30,000 in potential earnings based on the mileage. A Prius gets up to 300,000 miles before they start falling apart drastically, so to me this is a great investment. In the gig economy, a Prius is a cash cow.

Now I can go back to rocking that 50-60 MPG! Onward!
