9 New Restaurants Join Caviar in Portland

In November 2015, Pizza Maria closed its door for good with a Facebook post. There haven’t been any more Caviar restaurant closures that I’m aware of. On the contrary, the number of restaurants that use Caviar’s on-demand delivery fleet has grown.

This week, while checking out the Caviar website, I saw that there are nine Portland restaurants that haven’t been added to my interactive map. And boy are they diverse. Below, I provide information about each restaurant, when they are open, and a recommended place to camp out with respect to each restaurant.

Here are the new faces:

180 Cafe

Location: 2218 NE Broadway St, Portland, OR 97232

This cafe opened in December and is the sister restaurant to Ataula, offering churro and chocolate drinks. It opens from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM so it will be a good idea to camp nearby during the earlier shifts. One of the owners told The Oregonian that churros are “the best hangover snack“. So I recommend camping out close to this cafe on Saturday and Sunday mornings to cash in on the hungover orders.

During morning shifts (like 10:00 AM), if you camp out close to Martin Luther King/Grand Ave you’ll be close to 180 Cafe and the other three breakfast establishments. Check out the yellow dots (breakfast hours) on the interactive map to get an idea of where to park.

Double Dragon

Location: 1235 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97202

This is a gourmet Vietnamese sandwich shop. There aren’t a lot of Vietnamese establishments on the Caviar platform thus far, so this is a novelty.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a pho restaurant joins Caviar next. Pho is very popular in Portland among Vietnamese cuisine lovers. Double Dragon opens from noon to 9:00 PM everyday except Mondays.

Given its location, I recommend camping out by Ladd’s Addition if you want to deliver for Double Dragon. Doing so will put you in prime position for the businesses on Hawthorne Blvd and Division Street.

High Noon

Location: 822 SW 2nd Ave, Portland, OR 97204

This restaurant specializes in Southwestern food. It opened at the end of September last year just a block down from the popular Vietnamese kitchen Luc Lac, which is also on SW 2nd Ave. Keep in mind that parking can be limited on SW 2nd Ave. Not the best location for couriers with cars.

Caviar delivery for High Noon ends after 9:30 PM but the restaurant stays open until 2:00 AM for the late-night crowd. I recommend switching over to Postmates after 9:30 PM and camping out near downtown to catch some deliveries for High Noon. Luc Lac is popular with Postmates users during the late night munchie hours so you might be able to stack orders from both Luc Lac and High Noon.

Pig’n a Pen

Location: 5221 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR 97213

This food cart specializes in Midwestern-style hand breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches. Yum.

It opens mostly during lunch hours and closes 7:30 PM. It is closed on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Pig’n a Pen is close to Smak Dabs, which is another food cart. Parking in this area is a nightmare during rush hours.

If you check out the interactive map, a good place to camp out would be close to Alameda Elementary School. You’ll be roughly equal distance to Smak Dabs and Pig’n a Pen and all the Caviar restaurants in the Lloyd District, and the Boise, King, Alberta, and Kerns neighborhoods.

Pix Patisserie

Location: 2225 E Burnside St, Portland, OR 97214

This is a French restaurant with fancy desserts. It opens all day (10 AM to 9:30 PM) everyday except Tuesdays. Recommended camp out: Ladd’s Addition or by Central Catholic High School. Just try not to look like a stalker waiting to kidnap high schoolers.

Rendez Vous off Belmont

Location: 817 SE 34th Ave, Portland, OR

The food on their site looks French/Euro-mediterranean.  Rendez Vous is open 11 AM to 9:30 PM everyday except Mondays. It’s only the second restaurant on Belmont to use Caviar, after Hoda’s Middle-Eastern Cuisine. You could camp out on any of the residential streets between Division and Belmont on 28th Ave and be near all the restaurants that make up the circle of Caviar restaurants in central Portland.

Random Order Coffeehouse and Bakery

Location: 1800 NE Alberta St, Portland, OR 97211

Random Order is open every day from morning to evening. This coffee house is on 18th and NE Alberta which means both good and bad news. The good news is, there’s another morning-hour restaurant Caviar customers can order from so the morning shift will not be as slow for couriers. The bad news is, it’s quite far from all the other businesses that are open during breakfast hours. Ideally, you’d want these all clustered together for easy cherry picking. Oh, well.

Steve’s Dawg house

Location: 5235 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR 97213 (Rose City Food Park)

This is a food cart that sells hot dogs. It’s in the same food park as Smak Dabs and Pig’n a Pen. Open 11:00 AM to 6:30 PM every day except Tuesdays. See Pig’n a Pen for the recommended stake out location.

The Woodsman Tavern

Location: 4537 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97206

This Tavern is open every day from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Couriers who enjoy staying in the Division area during the evening shift will rejoice that this Tavern is joining Caviar. You can camp out on any of the residential streets near Division street like Sherman St., Ivon St., or Clinton St. and be able to make good time for all the nearby Caviar restaurants.
