Gig Economy Odd Jobs: Gigwalk

Updated: 07/01/2021

Gigwalk allows you to take on various gigs including mystery shopping, website evaluation, and more. These gigs can take anywhere from five minutes to a few hours, so you’re likely to be able to find something to fill whatever time slot you happen to have available. Pay ranges from $3 to $100 or more, making this a versatile and potentially lucrative gig economy platform.

Here’s a breakdown of the Gigwalk app.

How Gigwalk works

Gigwalk is a downloadable app for workers—Gigwalkers. Companies, brands and other retail entities pay Gigwalk for the ability to post these evaluation offers on the platform for Gigwalkers to perform. These companies use the data from Gigwalkers to improve some aspect of their business or product.

Getting started with Gigwalk is pretty simple—just download the app and sign up. You’ll need to provide PayPal information in order to get paid. No alternate means of payment are available. You get paid weekly, and you can work as many or as few gigs as you want.

You can scroll through a list of the gigs in your area and select which most interest you. However, the company posting the gig ultimately gets to pick who gets the gig (based on their needs). Meaning, you may not necessarily get a gig you apply for. You should hear back within a few days.

What types of gigs can you do?

Gigs tend to be checks on various merchandise inside businesses. Generally, you’ll take a photo of a given product, take a survey, etc. These gigs tend to be pretty quick, but also don’t pay a lot (in the under $10 range).

Your performance will be evaluated, and top Gigwalkers can gain access to more gigs. This can be a great incentive since there may be fewer gigs available in your area than there would be on a platform like TaskRabbit, for example.

Is Gigwalk worth it?

Gigwalk is definitely not at a point where it can be a full time gig for most people. However, if you’re able to find gigs that are at locations you already frequent (like your local grocery store or pharmacy) then it can be a good source of a little extra income.

If you’re interested in giving Gigwalk a try, you can download it for Apple here. The Android download is here.
