The Best Mileage Tracker Apps As Of 2021

Updated: 07/04/2021

Mileage trackers of some form are necessary for gig economy workers. Most of those working for on-demand services dread tax season even more than the general population. Since most aren’t classified as employees (yet), they’re responsible for filing generally a 1099 form. They also have to track of potentially deductible expenses, just as if they were running their own business. Possibly the most thought-of deductible item, especially for gig economy workers, is mileage. With that in mind, here are a few mileage tracker apps to help you out.

Free Mileage Tracker Apps

Sherpashare Mileage/Expense Tracker – This one allows for tracking of both personal and business miles. It also easily backs up to cloud.

Everlance – Everlance has the standard mileage and expense tracking. However, also runs in the background on your phone without taking up exorbitant amounts of your battery life.

Mileage – This is a great app for people who like charts. Also, all the data is easily sent to your email account at the click of a button.

Milebug – Milebug allows you to enter different vehicles and also create your own categories for expenses. This feature is especially helpful if you want to keep track of which miles you accumulate on different platforms.

Hurdlr – Designed specifically with Lyft, Uber Airbnb and Postmates workers in mind, this app has all the standard calculators and reports you need. It also comes with real-time tax projections. It’s designed for small business owners by small business owners.

Mileguru – Mileguru is a simple, straightforward app that just collects mileage and start and end points, and then exports them to a PDF. Nice and simple.

Paid Mileage Tracker Apps

TripLog – This one is only kind of free. It allows you to take pictures of receipts, but only the first ten, at which point you must buy the “Power User Package.” It also tracks fuel usage, not just miles. It also has categories that have nothing to do with transportation (like medical expenses).

QuickBooks – QuickBooks is a classic business tool, but it does have fees associated that vary based on version and location. If you do your own taxes, this app can link to TurboTax Self-Employed.
