GrubHub is a web and app-based food delivery platform with bases in Chicago, New York, and London. They offer online, in-app, and phone-based ordering from local restaurants. Customers can either opt to pick up the food themselves or have it delivered. GrubHub also recently integrated with Facebook’s “Order Food” function so that customers can order through there as well.

History and Funding

GrubHub was founded in 2004 by Jason Finger, Matt Maloney, and Mike Evans. To date, it has raised over $84,000,000 in funding. It is currently in the IPO funding phase, meaning it has begun offering stock on the public market.
Lead investors have been T. Rowe Price in the private equity round, Lightspeed Venture Partners, DAG Ventures, Benchmark, Leo Capital Holdings, and Origin Ventures.
GrubHub has also acquired several other platforms, including Eat24, Foodler, Delivered Dish, DiningIn.com, Seamless, and Dotmenu.

How Much Can You Earn with GrubHub?

Payment with GrubHub varies from location to location. You will receive a rate per order, a mileage fee, and all of your tips. However, the per-order rate and the mileage rate vary from city to city. You’ll want to email driverpayment@grubhub.com to find out the price breakdown for your city.

Some cities have an hourly guarantee, with drivers reporting a guaranteed $12 per hour in earnings. Meaning, if you earn below the hourly guarantee during a given hour of work, GrubHub will step in and make up the difference. For example, if you get $10 in an hour but the hourly guarantee is $12. In that case, GrubHub will tack the $2 difference onto your earnings for that hour.

If hourly guarantees are available in your area, you must meet specific criteria to receive them. It would be best if you accepted a set percentage of orders during your shift. You also need to be logged on as “available” during the entirety of your shift and maintain network connectivity. You’ll also need to stay within the delivery area to which you’re assigned.

Job Requirements

You must be at least 19 years of age to drive for GrubHub, at least 21 if you’re in Chicago. Regardless of age, you must have two years of driving experience. It would be best if you also had a cellphone with data that runs at least iOS 8 or higher or Android 4.0 or higher. Along with a valid driver’s license and auto insurance, you’ll need to pass a background check and a checking account for direct deposit.
If you opt to bike instead of drive for GrubHub, you need a state-issued ID.
