Food Delivery Services: Uber Eats vs. Grubhub

It’s simple now, thanks to the digital age. Americans and people worldwide enjoy their favorite dishes right from the comfort of their homes. Nowadays, you can order a meal from local restaurants and have it delivered straight to your door. After food delivery apps became popular, the demand for fast and quality services has allowed people to make a living by delivering orders. This article is about Uber Eats vs. Grubhub, two big names in the food delivery app industry.

Uber Eats vs. Grubhub Overview

Grubhub: The American food ordering and delivering company has been in service since the establishment in 2004. They are currently available in the USA across all fifty states, in 3,000 cities.

Uber Eats: This company launched in 2014 to diversify the ride-sharing business. It has grown into a global company offering its services in 6000 cities worldwide.

Service Pricing

Uber Eats will charge 15% of the order subtotal, and there is a minimum order fee ($2 or $3) for orders less than $10 or $15. The amount Grubhub will charge per order and the minimum ordering price varies depending on the restaurant. The two companies offer free delivery through their monthly subscription services ($9.99 per month): Eats Pass and GrubHub+. Eats Pass has a discount (5%) on orders above $15.

Driver Earnings

Drivers from any of the two companies get paid according to location and trips made. Uber Eats offers its drivers an introductory pay rate based on the trip’s fee and mileage gained from the pick-up and drop-off. You can earn extra cash through Uber Eats’ Boost Earnings and Delivery Surge incentives.

Grubhub no longer has a base pay, so how much you’ll earn depends on two considerations, miles driven ($0.22 per mile) or driving and waiting time ($0.13 per minute). You also get to keep the entire amount you receive as a tip, usually between 20% to 25%, as recommended by the company.

Ease of App Use

Uber Eats app shares almost the same interface as the Uber app, which is simple and easy to use. The app allows you to search for your favorite local restaurant, place an order and initiate the delivery process. It estimates the time and final cost of the delivery and allows you to track your order in real-time.

The Grubhub app interface is straightforward. The app’s search feature displays all of the nearby restaurants in your area. You can also select a particular cuisine or food item.

Customer service

Grubhub customers or delivery drivers can get help from customer service via their toll-free or 24/7 live chat option. On the other hand, the Uber Eats customer service is available via the app, email address, phone number, or social media accounts (Twitter).

Conclusion: Uber Eats vs. Grubhub?

The best among the two food delivery services comes down to what you and your favorite local restaurant prefer. Since both apps are free, you can give them a try to determine which of the two offers the fastest or cheapest delivery. One might be more lucrative. Regular users can save a few bucks by using Uber Eats or Grubhub subscription services.
